Should be a fun tournament for the fans and lots of “looks” for the players from the University coaches.

Rumor has it that things look good academically for the players on Antelope Valley team players.  A great deal of time, effort and direction was spent on making sure that 6 players who garnered university scholarships this year are ready for their new universities and the players who are coming back to AVC will be in good academic shape.

The players are taking a two week break and will be heading back to work with a vengeance on Monday, June 11, 2012.  The players will be taking seriously basketball classes this summer.  When you finish your season in the final 4 in the State Tournament and place 6 players with university scholarships in one year, there are many players who want to make the team.

You can usually tell by mid-summer how good your team will be.  How are they playing together?  Who shows up to every class?  How much talent is on the floor?  When you have players who have excuses for missing summer basketball classes, it’s the same players who have excuses for losing.

Heard the comment that Kyisean Reed has really become “serious” about his workouts and being the best player on the floor.  Says good things about the basketball environment at Utah State University.  Also heard a rumor that Kyisean has been trying out his skills against another Antelope Valley basket baller;  Paul George, from the Indianapolis Pacers who is home after the playoffs.  Strictly  a rumor.  Would be fun to watch if it is true!

Basketball never stops in the Antelope Valley!

The last time I talked to Bob Burton, he was raving about how Antelope Valley College’s guard Michaelyn Scott, 6’2”, 180 was what he needed to put him over the top at Cal State Fullerton.  Now we see the article below that he is stepping down.

Cal State Fullerton’s Bob Burton stepping down

By Jeff Goodman | College Basketball Insider

Burton led the Titans to a 21-10 record last season. (US Presswire)

Cal State Fullerton’s Bob Burton is expected to step down, sources told CBSSports.com.

Burton will likely be replaced on an interim basis by Andy Newman.

Burton was a long-time junior college coach who was hired back in 2003 to replace Donny Daniels. Burton had been 488-158 in 21 years at West Valley College.

He leaves Cal State Fullerton after a decade and a 153-122 record. The Titans were 21-10 last season.

Newman came with Burton from West Valley — and has been the associate head coach for the past five seasons

Wonder if this will effect the just announced recruitment of Chris Carvin, PG from American River CC?

Jerome (2)Antelope Valley College’s Jerome Moton is heading out this week to play professional basketball in Hong Kong.  “Papa” was quoted on Facebook, “Yeaaaa Going back to Hong Kong next week..whoop I’m back in the game.”

The following universities have successfully recruited Cal JUCO players this year.  Thank you to DR for putting the data together;  to the universities for their support of JUCO players; and most importantly thank you to the players and coaches who put their heart and soul into the game.

DaShawn Gomez will be getting a feeling what D-1 basketball is like with Iona University basketball team at the 2012 U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam against the Northeast Conference’s Quinnipiac Friday, Nov. 16 on the island of St. Thomas.  Payback for all the hard work Gomez did in the last two years at Antelope Valley College.

I keep saying that we are done with scholarships for 2011-12 but not so!  As expected Citrus did what they do best;  added another D-2 scholarship.  Still total silence on scholarships for Saddleback and Mt San Jacinto.  Hmmm.
