A week after head coach, Stew Morrill, came to watch Kyisean Reed at Antelope Valley College, assistant coach Tarish Felton was back. Although Coach Felton watched Kyisean in basketball class, he was there for a more important reason. Kyisean’s academics’. I was not in the meeting with Athletics Academic Advisor Mike Rios, Coach Felton, and Kyisean Reed but I will make a guess at what was said. “Kyisean, we would like to have you play next year at Utah State University.” “We are willing to commit a scholarship to you IF you assure us that you can successfully complete the following credits in the next year.” Wouldn’t be too surprised if they went over all of the classes so it was clear to Kyisean what was expected.
If I am right, I like how it was handled. It gives the student and Academic Advisor a full year to plan out the classes and makes it clear to the student athlete that basketball skills are not the only thing it takes to get into a University. Great job Utah State. Now the ball is in Kyisean Reed’s court.
By the way, what did Coach Felton see today? Kyisean blocking shots, making thunderous dunks, and knocking down those lefty three’s.
