The following information has been garnered from talking with the players and the following is their understanding and not their physician’s.  Please keep this in mind.

Playing basketball at the college level is incredibly difficult.  Not only does one’s body need to be in outstanding condition, but the speed and power of todays players can lead to injuries.  Two thoughts come to mind on this issue;  Basketball is like riding a motorcycle, “The question is not if your going to crash, it’s when your going to crash.”  The second thought is, What a good thing it is on how young and great condition the players are in and how fast they heal.Boston1

Antelope Valley College has four players that currently affected by injuries.  Only one, Sean Boston, 6’4”, 200 a sophomore wing is an active player.  This summer in practice Sean broke a bone in his foot that required surgery.  He is expecting to have the cast removed this Friday and start rehabilitation.  Sean is a highly motivated and  outstanding player.

The second player is Anthony Day, 6’3”, 190, who transferred in as a sophomore from a NoCal JUCO with a sore knee.  He has not practiced with the team and according to him he is awaiting a knee surgery.  If the surgery occurs or has occurred he will injury redshirt this year.

The third player is another NoCal player, Khiari Swift, a 6’4, 235 freshman who has soreswift3 Achilles tendons and has been unable to practice with the team.   Depending on how he responds to his inactivity and his rehabilitation, he may have to injury red shirt this year.

Jones1The fourth player that is injured is freshman Aaron Jones, 6’6”, 215, forward.  Aaron says that his doctor has told him to rest his knee for two weeks and if it is not healed that he may have to have surgery.  If that is the case Aaron will probably injury red shirt.

Players that are injured and are not practicing with the team have a tendency to be lost in the shuffle.  Sean Boston and Khiari Swift although not being able to physically practice, have not missed a practice session.   Aaron Jones is working his upper body in the weight room until the decision on his knee is made.  I will keep you informed as I receive the information.

The good news  on the rest of the team is that they are healthy…other than the expected tweaks.
